Overview
Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has invited online applications for 70 backlog vacancies of Assistant Professor across 24 disciplines in Government Degree Colleges, under Notification No. 06-PSC(DR-P) of 2026 dated 31 July 2026. This is JKPSC's third distinct Assistant Professor drive of the season, covering disciplines including Political Science (23 posts, the largest share), Punjabi, Statistics, Kashmiri, Anthropology, Veterinary Technology and more, with category-wise reservation applied across Open Merit, SC, ST, ALC/IB, PSP and EWS. Selected candidates will teach at Government Degree Colleges across Jammu & Kashmir in their respective discipline. The selection process consists of a Written Examination — a single 3-hour paper of 120 multiple choice questions — held at Srinagar and Jammu centres, followed by Document Verification, as per Rule 45 of the JKPSC (Business & Procedure) Rules, 2021. The salary is ₹15,600 to ₹39,100 plus AGP ₹6,000 (Pre-revised), equivalent to ₹57,000 in Pay Level-10. Application fee is ₹1,200 for General and ₹700 for Reserved categories; PHC candidates are exempted. Qualification
- Master's Degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Differently Abled/PhD holders pre-1991) in the concerned/relevant subject from an Indian University, or equivalent from an accredited foreign university, along with NET/SLET/SET, OR a PhD as per UGC 2009/2016 Regulations
- OR a PhD from a foreign university ranked in the world's top 500 (QS/THE/ARWU)
- Music discipline: alternatively, a traditional/professional artist of commendable achievement, with "A" grade Artist status of AIR/Doordarshan, may qualify
- Only domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir are eligible
