Overview
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Engineering Services Examination, 2027 (ESE 2027) notification under Examination Notice No. 02/2027-ENGG for recruitment to various Group 'A' and Group 'B' engineering services and posts under the Government of India. UPSC ESE 2027 offers approximately 480 vacancies, including 19 posts reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), across Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering disciplines. Candidates aged 21 to 30 years as on 1 January 2027, holding an engineering degree or equivalent qualification, can apply online at upsconline.nic.in from 16 September 2026 to 6 October 2026. Selected candidates will join prestigious Group 'A' and Group 'B' engineering services across ministries including Central Engineering Service, Indian Railway Management Service, Central Water Engineering Service, Indian Telecommunication Service, Indian Naval Armament Service, Indian Defence Service of Engineers, and Central Power Engineering Service, among others. The selection process runs in three stages — Preliminary Examination (Stage-I, 500 marks, objective type) on 31 January 2027, Main Examination (Stage-II, 600 marks, conventional type) on 18 June 2027, and Personality Test/Interview (Stage-III, 200 marks). Application fee for UPSC ESE 2027 is ₹200, with Female, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates exempted. The UPSC ESE 2027 online application closes on 6 October 2026. Candidates must complete Universal Registration to generate a URN, fill the Common Application Form and the examination-specific module, upload photograph, signature and required documents (proof of date of birth, educational qualification certificate, and age/fee concession certificates where applicable), pay the fee if not exempted, and submit before the deadline. Qualification
Degree in Engineering from a recognised university/institution, or passed Sections A & B of Institution of Engineers (India), or equivalent professional-body qualifications (subject to Delhi High Court judgment restrictions on admission post 31.05.2013 for certain bodies). M.Sc. with Wireless Communication/Radio Physics/Radio Engineering also accepted for specific posts.

Eligibility
Engineering Services Examination (approx. 480 posts) — Degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of Central/State Legislature in India, or an institution established by an Act of Parliament, or deemed a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956; OR passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); OR degree/diploma in Engineering from a recognised foreign University/College/Institution; OR passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); OR Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; OR Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London (held after November 1959) For Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering) and Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group 'A' — an M.Sc. degree or equivalent with Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Physics, or Radio Engineering as a special subject is also accepted Important — Following a Delhi High Court judgment dated 13.01.2023, degrees/certificates from the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India) and the Aeronautical Society of India obtained after admission post 31.05.2013 are NOT admissible; eligibility of Institution of Engineers (India) degree/certificate holders admitted after 31.05.2013 is subject to a pending Government decision Candidates who have appeared for or intend to appear for the qualifying examination may apply provisionally; proof of passing must be uploaded within 10 days of the Main Examination result being declared Nationality — Citizen of India, or subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who arrived before 1 January 1962 intending to settle permanently, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, specified East African countries or Vietnam intending to settle permanently (eligibility certificate required for the latter two categories) Age Limit — 21 to 30 years as on 1 January 2027 (born between 2 January 1997 and 1 January 2006); relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, up to 10 years for PwBD, and 5 years for Ex-Servicemen; cumulative relaxation available for candidates falling under multiple categories Medical Examination — Candidates finally recommended must undergo a medical examination decided by the Department of Telecommunications; findings of the Medical Board are final and binding; candidates must also meet physical standards prescribed in Appendix-II of the ESE 2027 Rules

How to Apply
- Visit the UPSC Online Application Portal, https://upsconline.nic.in.
- Complete Account Creation, Universal Registration (to generate a Universal Registration Number, URN — needed only once in a lifetime), and the Common Application Form (CAF), which are common to all UPSC examinations.
- Fill the fourth, examination-specific module (including fee and exam centre selection) during the ESE 2027 application window.
- Upload your photograph and capture a live photograph as prompted while filling the CAF.
- Sign three times (one below the other) on plain white paper using black ink, and upload the scanned signature.
- Upload the required scanned documents: proof of date of birth (Matriculation/10th certificate), certificate of educational qualification, and certificate for age/fee concession claims (if applicable).
- Pay the applicable fee online, if not exempted, via net banking or Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card/UPI.
- Review all details carefully — no correction is allowed after submission, except through the one-time URN edit facility described in the notification.
- Submit the application before the closing date, 6 October 2026.
