Overview
The Botanical Survey of India (BSI), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has released BSI JRF Recruitment 2026 under Notification No. BSI-292/2/JRF-Rect./2026-Tech. for 6 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) posts in Botany on a purely temporary and contractual basis. BSI, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Kolkata, is the Government of India's apex organization for survey, research and conservation of the country's plant wealth, making these fellowships an excellent entry into a central government scientific research career. Eligibility for BSI JRF 2026 requires an M.Sc. in Botany from a UGC-recognized university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks, with specialization in Plant Taxonomy or Plant Systematics desirable. The maximum age is 28 years as on the last date, with relaxation for reserved and female candidates. The fellowship pays Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 42,000 per month from the third year onwards plus HRA, and the engagement can run up to five years across JRF and SRF phases. Qualification
- M.Sc. in Botany from a UGC-recognized university with minimum 55% aggregate marks
- Desirable: specialization in Plant Taxonomy or Plant Systematics, working knowledge of computers, analytical abilities and technical writing skills
- Candidates who have qualified CSIR-JRF NET are exempted from the written test

- 5 years relaxation for SC / ST / PH / Female candidates
- 3 years relaxation for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates
