Overview
Fluid Control Research Institute (FCRI), an ISO 9001:2015 certified research institute under the Ministry of Heavy Industries at Kanjikode West, Palakkad, has invited online applications for 19 scientific staff positions under Notification No. FCRI/P&A/2026-27/Scientific Staff-001/RE-JRE dated 22 July 2026. The split is 4 Research Engineer posts and 15 Junior Research Engineer posts. FCRI specialises in fluid flow measurement and control, providing testing and calibration, research and development, training and consultancy services. The Research Engineer posts are all Mechanical and are divided by specialisation under four post codes: Multiphase Flow, CFD and Thermal and Fluid Engineering, Valves and Thermal and Fluid Engineering, and Fluid Flow Research. Junior Research Engineer posts span four disciplines: 8 in Mechanical, 4 in Instrumentation and related branches, 2 in Civil and 1 in Electrical. The pay is unusually strong for a 19-post notification, with Research Engineer at Pay Level 10 giving an approximate minimum gross of ₹1,01,130 and Junior Research Engineer at Level 8 giving around ₹83,800. The two roles follow different selection routes. Junior Research Engineer candidates sit an online bilingual MCQ test of 100 questions over 120 minutes for 400 marks, with 4 marks per correct answer and 1 mark deducted for a wrong one, held at Coimbatore and Kochi; the final rank list weights the written test at 80 per cent and the interview at 20 per cent. Candidates awaiting final degree results may apply for Junior Research Engineer provided they upload marksheets and degree certificates by 31 August 2026, failing which candidature is cancelled automatically. Qualification
- Research Engineer: B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of relevant experience in the applied specialisation, or M.E. or M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with relevant specialisation and 3 years of experience
- Junior Research Engineer: B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Electrical and Electronics, or an Instrumentation-related branch, as per the post code applied for
- Minimum 65 per cent marks in the qualifying degree, relaxed to 60 per cent for SC and ST candidates applying against reserved posts
- The degree must be a full-time regular course from a UGC-recognised Indian university, UGC-recognised deemed university, or an AICTE-approved course at an autonomous Indian institution
- Junior Research Engineer accepts either a 4-year programme after 10+2 or a 3-year lateral-entry programme after a diploma in the relevant discipline
- Ph.D. is desirable for the Fluid Flow Research specialisation
- Freshers are eligible for Junior Research Engineer; no prior experience is required
Age Limit
- Research Engineer: 35 years UR, 38 years OBC, 40 years SC
- Junior Research Engineer: 30 years UR, 33 years OBC, 35 years SC, 35 years ST, 30 years EWS

- Up to 5 years relaxation for regular employees of Government, Central Autonomous Bodies or PSUs, provided the candidate remains a regular government-sector employee until the date of joining FCRI
Eligibility

- Minimum 65 per cent in the qualifying degree, or 60 per cent for SC and ST candidates against reserved posts
- SC and ST candidates applying against Unreserved posts are judged on the general standard of merit with no relaxation in the qualifying percentage
- Research Engineer applicants must submit experience certificates in the prescribed Annexure-B proforma, combined into a single PDF where there are several
- Research Engineer applicants for relevant post codes must provide details of research experience including published papers
- Junior Research Engineer applicants awaiting results must upload final marksheets and degree certificate by 31 August 2026 with an online undertaking
- Candidates with CGPA, OGPA, CPI or letter grades must upload a university equivalence certificate and produce the original at verification
- Serving employees of Government, Autonomous Bodies, Research Institutes or PSUs must furnish a No Objection Certificate
- Selected candidates undergo a medical examination and verification of character and antecedents before appointment

Application Fee

Salary
- Research Engineer: Pay Level 10 of the 7th CPC matrix, ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500, with approximate minimum gross pay of ₹1,01,130
- Junior Research Engineer: Pay Level 8 of the 7th CPC matrix, ₹47,600 to ₹1,51,100, with approximate minimum gross pay of ₹83,800
- Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance are admissible on basic pay at prevailing rates
- Benefits include National Pension System, gratuity, medical reimbursement, travelling and daily allowance on tours, and leave as per Institute policy
