Overview
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has released the POWERGRID Apprentice Recruitment 2026 under separate regional notifications, all dated 21 August 2026, for engagement of Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961, for 270 posts. This is a nationwide, once-a-year apprenticeship intake spread across 10 regional establishments of POWERGRID, covering Northern Region I, II and III, Eastern Region I and II, North Eastern Region, Western Region I and II, and Southern Region I and II. This apprenticeship is a sought-after government training opportunity for ITI, Diploma and Graduate Engineering candidates across India, since it offers one year of hands-on experience at a Maharatna power-transmission company with a defined monthly stipend and no written test or interview. Candidates who have passed ITI (Electrician trade), a Diploma in Electrical or Civil Engineering, or a Graduate degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering within the last two years are eligible to apply. Selected apprentices will undergo one year of structured on-the-job training in their chosen trade at POWERGRID substations and regional offices across their applied state. The selection process for POWERGRID Apprentice 2026 is purely merit-based on eligibility criteria and educational qualification, with no written examination or interview; shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification in a ratio of 1:5 against notified training slots. Selected apprentices receive a monthly stipend of ₹13,500 for ITI Electricians, ₹15,000 for Diploma apprentices, and ₹17,500 for Graduate apprentices, with an additional ₹2,500 per month if company accommodation is not provided. On completion or during the apprenticeship, the apprentice has no automatic claim to employment with POWERGRID. The POWERGRID Apprentice 2026 online application is available at www.powergrid.in under Careers, Engagement of Apprentices. Applications open on 25 August 2026 and the last date to apply for POWERGRID Apprentice Recruitment 2026 is 10 September 2026. There is no application fee for any category. Candidates must first register on the NAPS portal (for ITI Electrician) or NATS portal (for Diploma/Graduate Engineering) before applying on the POWERGRID website, and must read the detailed regional advertisement for their preferred state before applying, since only one region/state/trade combination can be selected per candidate.
