RRB Technician 2026 Selection Process

Mathematics

Number systems, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square roots, age calculations, calendar and clock, and pipes and cistern.

General Intelligence & Reasoning

Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision-making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, and statement-argument and assumption.

General Science

Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of the 10th standard (CBSE) level. This section is central to Grade 3 and also supports Grade 1 preparation.

General Awareness

Current affairs in science and technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics, politics and other subjects of importance.

Basic Science & Engineering (Grade 1 Signal)

Engineering Drawing (projections, views, drawing instruments, lines, geometric figures, symbolic representation), Units and Measurements, Mass-Weight-Density, Work-Power-Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, and IT Literacy.

Basics of Computers and Applications (Grade 1 Signal)

Computer architecture, input and output devices, storage devices, networking, operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux), MS Office, data representation, internet and email, websites and web browsers, computer viruses and basic security.

RRB Technician Qualifying Marks

The minimum qualifying percentage in the CBT is generally 40% for UR/EWS, 35% for OBC (NCL) and 30% for SC and ST. These can be relaxed for reserved categories as per the CEN notification, so always confirm the figures from the official advertisement.

Preparation Tips

Study by weightage: prioritise Basic Science & Engineering for Grade 1 and General Science for Grade 3.
